as a DJ, I use mp3's either LAME VBR set to the highest quality or 320kbps to save space, but I have yet to have a person notice that I'm not using CD's anymore (of course, I only do small- to mid-size venues and outdoor parties so maybe it'd be noticeable in a larger venue). There are many DJ's who use WAV, but my library is 9083 files deep (and that's not even all my music, just the stuff I felt necessary to rip) so that would've been a HUGE chunk of my 100GB hard drive if I used a lossless format (I've since gone to a 320GB HDD, but haven't reripped music yet). Mobility was my biggest concern when I made the switch so I used the best sounding format I could reasonably fit on my laptop. (I use Scratch Live if anyone was wondering.) And as for "DJ's" using iPods... heartbreaking :(
I love elitists who aren't really elite in any way... they amuse me greatly. |
